Title
24Hour, Reduce Your Power
Judges Comments
The npower Climate Cops programme is all about encouraging people to use less energy, therefore we loved your project to engage your local community to "switch off".You can use your school 'switch off' to demonstrate to your community the savings you've made and to engage them. Think about how you'll record it when people do participate.
Swavesey Village College commitment to the environment and green issues
The Energy Monitors Club at SVC are currently monitoring our schools energy consumption in partnership with GEO Ltd. through the use of energy monitoring equipment. We are carrying out projects to reduce our emissions and make permanent behaviour changes. Our methods have consisted of poster making and assembly updates and we have started a whole school competition to keep interest alive amongst our students and ensure that we continue to make savings. As a result of our schools projects and their effectiveness we decided to push our knowledge and strategy beyond the school gates...
Why Swavesey Village College students chose the project
The next aim of our project was to engage our community and get households actively reducing their emissions alongside the school. It is beneficial for pupils to use the same techniques and principles at home in order to reveal the impact of our daily activities while educating other members of the household. Our Energy Explorers are developing a community energy project including a ’24 hour reduce your power day’ at the school for members of the community to attend. We intend to develop an ongoing community project helping households and businesses to reduce their wasted energy creating a greener community.
